The JD Robb story starring Eve Dallas and Rourke is good as they always are. But the other stories are trite and boring. Buy it for your "In Death" series fix; forget the others.

Mirror Mirror J D Robb Mary Blayney Elaine Fox Mary Kay McComas Ruth Ryan Langan 9780515154078 Books Reviews

I absolutely love her books (also her Nora Roberts books)! I started reading her In Death series with the very 1st book and from that point on have been hooked. I also got other people reading these and loving them. They're dramatic and funny. The relationships between her and Roarke; her and Peabody; her and McNabb and even baby Belle (which is progressing slowly); and just everyboby(!) are so interesting to follow! Please, it you're even somewhat interested in something a little futuristic, dramatic and funny, read these books (even though I would recommend starting with the 1st In Death book, you can't go wrong with any of them). She must be doing something right since this is her 47th and people are clamoring for more!
I buy these anthology's for the JD Robb stories and hope the other stories are good. I won't go into the storyline as others have done that very well.

Taken in Death by JD Robb - 5 Stars. Robb's take on Hansel & Gretel pulled you into the story. Even as a short story it had the classic storyline expected in this series. Favorite characters were involved in finding and rescuing the children.

If Wishes Were Horses by Mary Blaney - 3 Stars. This story of Goldilock's took me a couple of chapters to get into the storyline. Once I got past the first few chapters I enjoyed it.

Beauty Sleeping by Elaine Fox - 4 Stars. I really liked this switch on the Sleeping Beauty story. This story is written in first person. That throws off the flow for me.

The Christmas Comet by Mary Kay McComas - 2 Stars. The Matchstick Girl was my least favorite. I had a hard time reading it and wound up skimming the story. I like the original Brothers Grimm fairy tales that are dark. This was just depressing for me.

Stroke of Midnight by RC Ryan - 5 Stars. This is the first time I have read this author and will look for more from her. This Cinderella story was my second favorite. The story flowed well and was well written. The characters were engaging and likeable.
My sister owns EVERY book Nora Roberts has written and EVERY one she's written as J.D. Robb. In fact her series with Eve and Roarke are what got me reading again. My sister and I share the books but they go into her collection. Since we live together, I don't mind. We used to share the buying of them; she'd pay for one and then the next one that came out, I'd pay for. Now that she has a and has successfully downloaded EVERY J.D. Robb book on to it; she buys them on her and I buy the physical book. In that way we can both read them at the same time and not have to wait until the other one finishes reading it. We both thoroughly enjoy the "In Death" series and still, after reading so many of them, look forward to the next installment with great anticipation. We don't normally read crime drama style books but when my sister found out J.D. Robb was actually Nora Roberts, she bought one of them, read it and immediately began searching out the 3 or 4 that had come before. I'd listen to her talk about Eve and Roarke and all the other characters and started feeling like I was missing out on something. I read the first book and found out I was RIGHT! Neither of us has missed a single book, not even one of them put in a compilation like this one is, we own them ALL and recommend them to men and women alike. We now have our brother reading them too. He orders them on his .
J. D. Robb's novelette "Taken In Death" is, as far as I'm concerned, the only reason to purchase this book. Her tale of an evil twin sister who kidnaps the good twin's children puts the NYPSD on a deadline. But thanks to some high-tech tools--and a very savvy little boy--the children are rescued from the wicked witch. Mary Blayney's "If Wishes Were Horses" is another installment in a magic coin that can grant wishes. Ho hum! Elaine Fox's "Beauty, Sleeping" reverses the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty and puts a modern prince to sleep--actually in a sort of limbo--until one special little girl grows up and rescues him. Mary Kay McComas's "The Christmas Comet" tells the story of a social worker who feeds the homeless being rescued by a policeman who follows the light of a "once in a lifetime" bright comet (Comet ISON) to find her in the midst of a snow storm. R. . Ryan's "Stroke of Midnight" tells of a stepdaughter left with little of her father except his artistic talent--her stepmother having sold off all his paintings to finance her high style of living. However, in a box of "worthless trash" stepmother overlooked, the daughter finds a roll of $100 bills and a note from her father telling her to make their dream trip to Ireland.
The JD Robb story was good. A bit hard to develop the usual characters in a short story. I am ok with that since I have read all of JD Robb's books, and I am getting a bit tired of the angst in the flashbacks and the backstory each time. I think that if I were not up on the story line, I might be a bit confused since all of the usual characters are here. But it was good. I usually buy these short story books and read my favorite authors and then ignore the others after the first page in each. But this one is better than usual. I am now on the last story and I actually think I may read the whole book! Amazing. Some are better than others, of course, but all are worth reading. Each has a tie-in to a fairy tale. I am not getting the tie-in yet on the last story but I am sure it will be there. Still reading that one. All in all, worth the money. Good job, MIrror Mirror!
