Pinned Sharon Flake Sharon G Flake Books

I picked up this book after meeting the author in a restaurant where we were eating alone (on separate business trips). I mentioned my son's love of wresting, and she mentioned her book. I loved that the characters are have real issues and challenges that they struggle to overcome while dealing with the "normal" kid issues. She spoke to a wide variety of things our kids will face as they mature and pass through adolescence and school days. My son (8y) is younger than the characters and the target age of Ms. Flake's audience, so I pre-read the book. I think he can easily understand it, and there was nothing too risque for him. I think the main character's struggle with reading will resonate with him and hopefully encourage him to persevere, as she ultimately decides to do. It's wrapped and under the tree!

Pinned Sharon Flake Sharon G Flake Books Reviews

I met Ms. Flake and she was telling me about her new book. I went out immediately and purchased it. I love wrestling and this book so I can really appreciate the accuracy, it makes good reading!
I chose this book to read for group discussion after summer break. It was intriguing and led to several great discussions among the students. It was also inspiring to me as an educator and coach. Quick read. Entertaining and thought provoking.
Even though the information box of the book basically gave the whole story it had a great ended and one uncover piece to the story
I purchased this book for my daughter as a Christmas gift, and she's read it twice already. But she also LOVES everything published by Ms. Flake. I strongly recommend.
A little challenging to read because of the lack of grammar but it was necessary to get an accurate portrayal of the character. If you can get past that, it’s a good story.
This was a replacement book for my son's 7th grade teacher's in class library. The original was borrowed and never returned. It seems to be a popular book.
I've purchased two of these books - one specifically for a student of mine who requested it, and the other ended up being given to a reluctant reader in one of my classes. Because our school is in Pittsburgh, we have had an ongoing relationship with Ms Flake. One of my students had the opportunity to interview Ms Flake a couple of years ago, and she hinted that she was writing about teens who had some sort of special needs. I was looking forward to reading this book, because I teach special needs students. It was good to read a popular book whose main characters each have a disability yet who also have definite strengths, both of which the they openly discuss.
