After Daybreak Darkness Before Dawn J A London Books
4.5 StarsAfter Daybreak has exceeded my expectations, and was more then I could of ever imagined! When I read Darkness before Dawn, the first book in this trilogy, I was hooked! This series captivated me, called to me, and stolen my heart! The desire, devotion, and determination of Dawn's character just captured my heart and sucked me in! She wanted an new way for her people and vampires alike. She wanted them to be able to live as one. Forge an alliance, and except each other for who they are. And she was determined to see it happen one way or another...
This series is definitely one of my all time favorites, and will live in my heart from years to come! As always the writing was captivating, addicting, and heart-throbbing! After Daybreak has everything a reader could possibly want and more! It had action, adventure, twist and turns, loyalty, war, an amazing plot, and of course a juicy ROMANCE! It was amazing, with surprises around every corner. When I thought it couldn't get anymore amazing then it was, then BAM, I was tossed another crazy thing I didn't see coming! Phew...I mean this series is definitely one of a kind, and I am so sad to see it end! Why does it have to be a trilogy, WHY? Why couldn't it have like 6 or more books?? I would read them ALL!!
Anyways here's the Plot:
This book picks up exactly where book 2 left off. With Dawn and Micheal fleeing the mountain top to escape from the manic Day-walker Sin, and his insane desire to conquer the world with his infected vampires, the Ones called The Chosen Ones. The Chosen Ones are infected with the Thirst by drinking Vampires blood, not human blood! It drives them insane, eating away at their brain until their body becomes uncontrollably strong, with razor-sharp teeth that form where their fangs once were. Sin, the ruler and creator of all Day-walkers, has been drinking the blood of his Day-walkers for years. Sitting in the shadows, waiting for the blood to take effect and consume him, so he can become infected. The Chosen Ones are stronger, faster, and unstoppable to any Day-walker, lesser-vampires, human and even the Old family. His time is near, his plan is in motion, and his Day-walkers are in place, all he needs is the blood to fully take effect. Then he can become infected and run through Vampire cities, and take them over one by one, until he's conquered them all!
As Dawn and Micheal race down the mountain to escape Sin they realize Micheal is injured badly, and in need of serious medical attention. If not he might not make it back to Denver alive. Just when all is but lost, they come across a town willing to help them. In this town they find something they never could of imagined. A new beginning! A new way for vampires and humans to live in peace with each other! And they think maybe, just maybe, all is not lost and they can all live as one!
With the newly discovered information that Dawn and Micheal found while in L.A. they start planing immediately on how to take down Sin and his army of Day-walkers and Chosen Ones! But they can't do it alone. They need the help of Old Family if their going to be able to put and ended to the Thirst and take down Sin and his Army. The Chosen Ones are strong, stronger then Old Family. So they have their work cut out for them if their going to succeed.
Dawn is still struggling with the fact that she has Vampire blood racing their her veins. And that the Montgomery's might very well be the lost family on the Vampire tree. But the most scariest part about it all, is that she might very well be related to the most evilest thing on earth, Sin! Oh, and theirs still the problem of the death warrant out for any living Montgomery's! So if she's revealed to the Old Family, and they still want the death warrant fulfilled, then she might not make it out alive! She has to deal with all this while preparing to take down Sin, and keeping her feelings for Victor in check. And she thought it couldn't get any worse, She was wrong!
The odds are against them, and if they don't get help from The Old Family soon, and come up with something fast, then Sin will get what he wants and take over, and make the terrible world that they live in now seem like paradise to the new world that Sin will create!
I loved it, Truly an EPIC Series that will have the reader staying up late and craving more! This series ended on a perfect level with enough closer, even though I would of liked more of the New World Order but it was enough that I can except that its over!

After Daybreak Darkness Before Dawn J A London Books Reviews
This was an enjoyable ending to a trilogy which I was intrigued by from the start. I did feel as though the final confrontation was a bit rushed, which I guess in retrospect there was a rationale to the main antagonists change in behavior. I had hoped for a more interesting battle between Sin's army and the Old Family vampires though... but it was still engaging enough. This was a quick read for me and the book moved at lightening speed. I swear one moment I was 25% of the way through and the next thing I knew I had quickly reached 75%. Definitely no slow moments to be had in this book.
I really enjoyed the character of Dawn throughout this series. She was a worthy heroine and stepped up when need be. I also liked the fact that even though she realized she was something different, she didn't mope and whine about what cards she had been dealt. Instead, she embraced who and what she was. I was a little in shock about how easily it was for Dawn to convince EVERYONE that she should go on all these dangerous missions, however, Faith, who was much stronger and just as stubborn in my opinion, had to sit out most every time in this final book. I felt that at times Faith, an old family vampire, was treated like more of a fragile person than Dawn (who was not a vampire) was.
Victor worked his way into my heart during the first book and while I didn't feel that we got a lot of Victor in the 2nd installment, he was definitely back in this final book. I also loved the whole Richard and Faith component and really wished we could have seen more of those 2 interact. I actually felt a connection to most of the characters in this series by the end (with the small exceptions which I won't state for spoiler purposes).
Overall, I am very pleased this series found it's way onto my . I have greatly enjoyed this world that J.A. London has created.
This book was fitting for the ending of this trilogy. I didn't love the series but I didn't hate it either. It was just so-so. In this conclusion to the series, Dawn and Victor must help the human and vampire worlds fight together to face Sin and his army of "Chosen." They must go to the Vampire Council to enlist the Old Family help and Dawn is forced to face realities she didn't want to face. Then comes the battle with Sin - much different than I expected and less climactic than I had hoped.
Here are the things that got under my skin - there was little build up to major events. The details of preparation were just skipped. Like the thing with Eris - There is a plan an suddenly it's being carried out. It was the same thing with the meeting with the Vampire Council - it's mentioned as a next major step and the next thing we read is that it is happening. There was no crescendo - no building of expectations or hopes. It happened over and over in the book and made it less exciting. The ending was also kind of blah. It was a happy ending but just a super short blurb. I wanted a lot better build up at the end and a better establishment of Dawn's heritage. I felt a bit disappointed by the lack of details in this book.
