Warprize is one of my all time favorite books. I have bought 5 copies over the last 11 years, mainly due to my reading this book at the pool and beach! This book was the author's very first published novel and while there were a few grammar issues not caught by the editor, oh my goodness the book was fantastic. The author created a people to be admired and explored, and she has continued to write a series of books to enlarge on their internal strife and changes. I have loaned this book to many friends and sisters; a truly wonderful book. A romantic book with light love-making, more sensual then sexy, but with good and evil characters to create tension and challenges. A classic read for me right up there with Linda Howard's MacKenzie's series or Nora Roberts' The Donovan's Legacy series or Anne McCaffrey's Tower and Hive series. If those three are favorites...enjoy this one too!Tags : Warprize [Elizabeth Vaughan] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers.,Elizabeth Vaughan,Warprize,Tor Paranormal Romance,0765357364,GOR003046761,AMERICAN LIGHT ROMANTIC FICTION,Fiction,Fiction - Romance,Fiction Romance Fantasy,Fiction-Romance,General Adult,MASS MARKET,Romance - Fantasy,RomanceGothic,Romance: Gothic,SCIENCE FICTION AND FANTASY,United States

Ugh what a disappointment. I read this book because it was recommended for fans of The Winter King but Warprize can't compare AT ALL. In the book's defense, maybe I enjoyed it less because I was hoping it would be like one of my favourite books of all time, which is a very tough standard to live up to. But it didn't even come close.
I considered not finishing the book so many times, but some morbid curiosity to see the ending kept me going.
There was basically zero world building. I mean, sure, there was some culture within the direct environment of the war camp (some cool stuff about dancing), but beyond that, there was nothing. Absolutely zero sense of what this world was, what it was like, how s*** worked... nothing. I had no idea where the heck we were. Just some incredibly vague medieval-ish world.
The romance was disappointing. There was no sexual tension and honestly, no love there either. Just some form of weird ownership/courtship. But at the end of the day, this was a romance/"follow your heart" book, which was unsatisfying when you consider the romance wasn't exactly developed. I was hoping for a passionate, all-consuming romance, and Warprize is soooo far from that.
And I got so sick of the characters just being referred to as 'Warlord' and 'Warprize'. Sure, a guy can be a warlord. But who goes around calling him, "Warlord"?
The only reason I'm giving this book even two stars is because something wouldn't let me DNF. My stupid curiosity had to see the ending. That tells me that despite my lack of love for the book, it could have been worse.
I gave this rating because this book deserved it. Once u start this book the pages almost turn themselves. While the hero is po
While the hero is a powerful warlord who brings fear to the hearts of men, he is unprepared to deal with a woman who is devoted to healing, the preparation of medicines, and teaching. As a healer she does not distinguish between friends and foes. Her step brother is ruler but she becomes the enemy when she is chosen as Warprize by the Warlord as his terms along with fealty of her stepbrother as ruler of his country. This book is wicked clever and enthralling! It has romance, mystery, love, hate, rejection and wit above might. I adored both heroine and hero. This is not a love and sex story. It's about interesting characters who are fully developed and interesting. You want to know their stories as well as the storyline. It is a book rich in details of the customs of the people as well as the characters. While I titled it Women rule u have to read the book to understand the title. Excellent book!
The Warprize is a good, old fashioned epic read. The world building and excellent characterization create a novel that is intelligent, exciting and fun to read. The romance is a slow build in how it comes about, but it fits the type of story it is. I loved this one, but I wish this author's books were not so expensive. I will have to check for others in this series at the library. However, this book can stand alone. No cliffhangers.
Enjoyable, just enjoyable. As the sister to the king, she is given to the conquering Warlord and was told she was a slave by the King. The term War prize was in fact a mate to the Warlord. This book was about a healer, who refused to accept her rank. She believed in healing both sides of a war, and that is what brought her to the Overlords attention. There were war councils, healing, its clean, funny, great-great friends, and it showed how people react when things start happening. I truly can say that seeing how the Warlord started working with the conquered people. This is truly worth reading and how the author showcased the customs differences between both sides, was one of the best I have read about. Everything flows and you are left with a good feeling and wondering what is going to happen in the next book.
