Bound by Flames A Night Prince Novel Jeaniene Frost 9780062076083 Books
I started this book expecting that it would wrap up the story line between Vlad and Leila; however, it soon became clear that there is a fourth book in the offing (and potentially a fifth as well). Because of this expectation, I felt a bit cheated at the end - it seemed like a new conflict has been introduced merely for the purpose of spinning things out further. Although Vlad remains a wonderful (and utterly consistent) character, I also started to get a slight sense of deja vu in this story, and the Leila/Maximus relationship is beginning to remind me too much of the Cat/Tate relationship (and I wasn't very keen on that in the first place). I'm not a particular fan of authors rehashing plot lines, and one scene in particular bore a striking resemblance to one from the Night Huntress series. I did enjoy the story and read it in one sitting but these factors brought it down to a 3.5 star read for me.Tags : Bound by Flames: A Night Prince Novel [Jeaniene Frost] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. ~ 4.5 Bound by Flames Stars ~
Bound by Flames is book three in the Night Prince series by Jeaniene Frost.
Amazing! Jaw-Dropping! Astonishing!
Vlad and Layla are trying to make their marriage stronger when an old enemy of Vlad's comes calling, bringing tension and issues to the forefront.
I love Vlad! Yummy! Yummy Vlad! Layla is as kick-ass as ever. This was a fabulous read in the series. Giving us an action packed adventure full of suspense, twists, surprises, and much much more.
So much happens good and bad in this installment. Bound by Flames was excellent, but it was also dark!! The author rocked the dark and we are reminded of that fact with a vengeance. Graphic torture, skinning, rape, arms torn off and much more.
The balance of power in Vlad and Lelia's relationship has been one-sided, up until now. Leila new going into this marriage, with one of the most powerful vampires, would be a challenge. The personal growth these two go through was significant. We get to see Vlad’s vulnerable side; while Leila shows us how strong and resilient she can be. The author did a fantastic job pulling out all the stops and of course she didn't hold back on the ravishing parts either.
I loved seeing other characters make appearances. Mencheres pops in and Cat and Bones had a cameo, although I will point out that their part is somewhat spoiler-ish if you haven't read Up From the Grave. It's fantastic for all those fans who love all things Night World.
Bound in Flames was so spectacular, full of emotion, action, and excitement. I couldn't get enough and devoured the book. I can't wait for the last book.
I may still be mildly traumatized after Night Huntress 6, but I'm starting to think Jeaniene Frost has a sadistic streak a mile wide. The first 70 pages of this book truly transcended the usual blood and gore I've come to expect from frost after reading 16 of her books. I think this book forgot what kind of genre it is and the briskly remembered it and tried to backtrack. So I'm gonna add a trigger warning for some #TORTURE.
Another thing that started to bother me. Leila repeatedly describes Vlad as being modest in his clothing, always being covered up - more so than Bones, Spade, Mencheres and Ian even - and yet all four of his book cover feature a shirtless dude (my eyes can't complain but my brain isn't buying it).
I enjoyed Vlad and Leila, Frost always writes leads that are easy to love but I fear for what I'll find in the pages of Book 4.
I loved the first two books in the series but feel let down by Bound by Flames. It still had sexy Vlad and sassy Leila as the positive. What didn't work for me was that this book was very "Vampireish" and was a whole lot of mystery and adventure versus romance. I know it's a book about Vlad the ultimate vampire but the first two books had more of a human story line and romance. It must be very tough for a writer to continue a storyline once the human has "changed" because I have not seen it done well and that unfortunate trend continues here. The majority of the story was about Vlad's enemies getting to him through Leila. How many times does this girl need to shot at, kidnapped, killed...? Is all that vampires do is try to kill each other? I would like to see some new developments for me to continue with the series. Vlad and Leila's romance was different, more seasoned and loving. I did miss the more unpredictable chemistry and romance from before though.
Let me first say that Jeaniene Frost is my favorite author, and I own everything she's written. Being such a big fan of hers, I was horribly disappointed by this book. We know from the previous books in the Night Price series that Leila has had a rough past. However, that's nothing compared to this book.
***SLIGHT SPOILER AND TRIGGER WARNING***
A decent chunk of this book is devoted to Leila's kidnapping and subsequent torture - which includes a very graphic scene of her being skinned alive. She's also repeatedly sexually abused via simulated rape. As if this section of the book wasn't horrible enough, Frost feels the need to bring these events up every few pages for the rest of the book (in case you managed to forget).
The relationship between Vlad and Leila isn't enough to have kept this book afloat, or lift it out of the horribly abusive and sexual-assault laden plot. You don't even feel any love between the characters in this book. I can handle violence in books, however, what Frost did in this book didn't even really serve a greater purpose in the plot, and really turned me off as a reader. I hope this isn't a taste of what her future books will be like. I miss the magic, romance and wonderful storytelling of her Night Huntress series.
